Part 1
The initial 3 day course will cover the following topics:
- Trigger Point and Needle Theories Presentation
- Neuromyofascial Pain concepts
- Trigger Point identification and clinical features
- Safety Presentation
- Assessment Presentation and Practical – Supervised
- Dry needling Presentations, Demonstration and Practical of the following regions:
- Posterior hip
- Lumbar Spine
- Anterior/Medial/Posterior thigh
- Cervical Spine
- Upper extremity – major muscle groups
- Lower extremity – major muscle groups
- Relating assessment and treatment to common clinical presentations
- Clinical Integration
Learning Outcomes: At the completion of this course, participants should be able to:
- Define trigger points, motor banding and their clinical presentations leading to dysfunction.
- Safely apply Dry Needling techniques for orthopaedic and neuromuscular conditions of the lower limb.
- Define indications and contraindications for treatment.
- Identify specific treatment rationales for various diagnoses.
- Understand the research supporting the use of Dry Needling in clinical practice.
- Have a general knowledge to apply dry needling techniques to common sporting injuries of both the upper and lower limbs.
- Have a greater understanding of how our bodies/brains process pain, in both the acute and chronic settings.
- Have a greater understanding of how to accurately evaluate, recognise and treat common myofascial disorders of the upper and lower extremities.
NOTE: We typically allow 6 months between our Part One and Two courses. This allows course participants to put into clinical practice the skills they have acquired during the first part of this course. ALSO, we ask our Part One graduates to fill in a log book outlining 100 treatment episodes between courses. This log book will be sent to you post successful completion of the Part One course and MUST BE RETURENED to courses@gemtinfo.com.au PRIOR to participating in the Part Two component of this course.
Part 2

The Part Two 2 day course will cover the following topics AND includes the use of Real Time Ultra-Sound (RTUS) to fully appreciate 3D anatomy, muscle depth and bony landmarks as well as visualise a Local Twitch Response:
- Updating research on Trigger Point deactivation and treatment via Dry Needling
- Review and update of needling safety procedures and precautions
- Advanced techniques involving electrical stimulation
- Advanced hip/groin
- Advanced Lx and Cx techniques
- Foot
- Hand
Course Eligibility: Participants must have successfully completed the 3 Day part One Course (including completing a 100 episode log book) before commencing the Part Two and advanced component of this course.
NB: Course participants may register for both courses up front to save on registration fees. Failure to successfully complete the Part One Course will result in a refund of course fees 'less' the full fee (not discounted fee) of the Part One Course.
